Top 4 Reasons Why Winter Is the Best Time to Build a Deck

If you are thinking of building a deck, you don’t have to wait for early springtime to call home exterior remodeling companies to set up a consultation. You can do it now. Here are four reasons why it is a good idea to have your dream deck built this winter.

You May Be Able to Negotiate a Lower Rate

Contractors may be amenable to negotiate better rates during off the peak season. You get to save funds for other areas of your project.

Your Deck Is Set Come Springtime

Planning the deck and getting the necessary permits may take time. If you start now, you are likely to secure your permit early and finish your project just before springtime. Also, most deck and siding contractors are not as busy during this season. This means they are most likely available on your preferred schedule.

Warping is Minimized

Wood tends to absorb moisture in the air.  During winter months, the humidity is usually low and the wood can dry more quickly and evenly without being directly exposed to harsh sunlight which can cause warping.

Better Wood Stains

Staining wood in humid weather is not advisable since the stain will take longer to dry. Since it tends to be more humid during spring than in winter, then it is better to do wood staining in the cold weather as long as the temperature doesn’t fall below 50 degrees. In addition, direct sunlight on not yet fully-cured stained wood is likely to cause watermarks on the wood.
