The 3 Most Common Roof Vents

Roof vents – those little structures sticking out on the roofs of buildings and your neighbors play a key role in ensuring comfort. You may have noticed that they don’t look alike and their differences are more than just design.

Pairing vent installation with your upcoming roof replacement is a great idea, but you’ll want to research first what’s the right vent style for your home. Triangle Home Exteriors lists the three most common roof vents for residential properties and when you should choose them.

1.Box Vents

Also known as Low-Profile and Flat Vents, the humble box vent is the most common choice for residential homes due to their ease of installation. They can be installed over a hole cut on the roof and uses natural convection to ventilate your home.

This style is the best choice for standard and simple roof styles since they work best when installed close to the roof ridge. They come in many colors and are usually made of metal or hard plastics.

2.Powered Vents

These gable-mounted vents boast motors that turn fans which redirect moisture and hot air from the attic or top floor. Some even come with adjustable thermostats for extra functionality. As their name suggests, they are powered either by electricity or through a built-in solar panel.

Many home exterior remodeling companies recommend these powered vents for homeowners looking for an easy to use and maintain system that’s also effective at ventilating the house. Another advantage of powered vents is that they’re quiet – they hardly make any noise!

3. Ridge Vents

Like the box vents, these are static with no moving parts and are installed on the titular ridge that runs horizontally throughout the roof. It’s often paired with an underave venting or soffit to create an even more efficient ventilation system. Ridge vents are a fairly popular style for minimalist housing since the system blends perfectly with the roof’s ridge, giving it a sleek and flush appearance.

These are just some of the most popular and commonly used ridge vents for residential homes. Once you’ve made your choice, get in touch with our team at Triangle Home Exteriors. We’ll make sure your new vent system is properly installed on your home.
